Veronica Character Creation

Assigned to go through the character creation process for a class, from ideation and concept art to a fully rigged and animated 3D model, I came up with my character Veronica.

Software Used: Photoshop, Blender, Substance Painter

3D Model & Animation

Having little experience with blender, it took me some time to create a version I was proud of, and it took even more time fixing all the clashing meshes and polygons in it. After UV wrapping the model and using substance painter to create the textures, all that was left was to rig and create a running animation. Rigging the hair and ribbon to move as well was a headache and took longer than expected, but I am really happy with the end results.

Early Sketches & Ideas

When creating my character, I took heavy inspiration from existing characters, like Power from Chainsaw Man and a variety of characters from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. In addition, I wanted to emulate the art style of the latter, making it look like my character popped out of a comic book. As for the look, I was hoping to give her a zombie apocalypse outfit, with something iconic, which in this case was the big red ribbon.
